As a creative person you do get times when you temporarily lose the motivation to create. This happened to me a few months ago with my handmade jewellery (see Indie Handmade). I got really excited when my boyfriend suggested making my own polymer clay jewellery. The options are limitless! You can create pretty much anything your imagination can come up with, if you have the patience and time to do so.

We did some thorough research on the internet, downloaded guides and watched tutorials. That was it, I had to do it! We set about buying the materials needed, polymer clay, rollers, blades, cutters, skewers (known as pearl tools) and glaze.

Once the goodies were delivered I didn’t know how to start. It took me a week just to open a packet of clay. We both struggled to come up with ideas of what we wanted to make. The tutorials and videos we watched made it look incredibly easy but in practice we found making one piece was taking hours to finish.

So here are a few of the items we did manage to finish and bake up. We were aiming to create jewellery items of a cute and kawaii nature:

I’m not so sure if I’m happy with them or not. I think they’re not bad for a first attempt but there is room for improvement. What do you think? I would really love your honest, constructive opinion on these. Would you wear any of them?

(Title credit goes to my boyfriend who named a tutorial book ‘World of Claycraft’. Purely because we’re both Warcraft geeks… Bless him!)
