Swimming or bathing could be harmful to jewellery because of the chlorine and salt content. Using perfume or hair care products may also have a tarnishing effect.

If tarnishing does occur, clean your jewellery using warm water, mild soap and a soft bristle toothbrush. Use a non-abrasive silver cloth or soft lint free cloth to polish jewellery and remove tarnishing.

Glass Beads and Pearls

In order to prevent scratches to the surface of glass beads and pearls you should ideally store each piece separately, either in individual compartments of a jewellery box or in polythene bags.

Sterling Silver

Leaving your Sterling Silver jewellery out in the open air for long periods of time can cause it to tarnish [blacken in appearance].

In order to prevent this from happening, it is highly recommended that you store your jewellery in a cool, dry place. I keep mine in a polythene zip-top bag with in a plastic box and usually separate from other pieces. Bagging each individual piece of jewellery separately helps to reduce the risk of scratching and rubbing and the need for constant cleaning.
